“Like me, she’s a writer. Like me, she’s published three books. Like me — and most other people who do creative things — she needs to do something else to make a living. There’s a 99 percent with writers too.
So she teaches, as I also have. But jobs are hard to come by, especially if you don’t have an MFA… She got the credential the academic marketplace apparently wants. What she didn’t get out of her program was a job.”
