It’s been pointed out by one of our readers that Dee Brown (Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) was born on Leap Day. Thanks for the heads up! In honor, here’s Brown’s summation of the Kwahadi prophet Isatai.
At the Comanche sun dance, a Kwahadi prophet named Isatai spoke for a war to save the buffalo. Isatai was a man of great magic; it was said that he could vomit wagonloads of ammunition from his belly, and that he had the power to stop the white men’s bullets in midflight.
